Is full color the future of 3d printing? Inside the HeyGears G1X

HeyGears has brought full-color 3D printing to the desktop, so I went to their factory to find out how they did it. I spent two days with the engineers who built the G1X, watching them check individual ink droplets under a confocal microscope, heat the printhead to get the ink viscosity right, and write their own 3D slicing algorithms from scratch because nothing off the shelf could handle color in three dimensions. Along the way: why every overhang needs water-soluble support, why Epson is effectively the only printhead option, and what the ink really costs.
